In November of 2005, owners Jerry Cooper and his partner of 18 years Christopher Von Laufen opened Swirl on Castro with a little vision and the help of a small group of artists and friends. The unique space was created to feature fine wines and spirits, gifts, wine accessories, books, and a venue to showcase some unusual art installations, including the Swirl on Castro wine bar.

Jerry worked several years in San Francisco as a wine consultant, restaurant and retail wine buyer, and has been an active wine judge in local wine competitions. He regularly sits on the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Tasting Panel, as well as judging at the annual San Francisco International Wine Competition.
